Making Healthy Dog Food At Home

Foods that are harmful to include when making dog food.



  • Grapes 
  • Raisins  
  • Onions
  • Garlic 
  • Chocolate 
  • Artificial sweeteners or artificial fats 
  • Raw meat* (poultry can contain bacteria, salmonella, or parasites or viruses)                                         Here are healthy foods to use when making homemade dog food.

  • Meats (cooked) do not over cook
  • Poultry 
  • Organ meats, liver (don't overuse) 
  • Eggs 
  • Cultured dairy products such as yogurt, buttermilk, cheese 
  • Complex carbohydrates such as rice, sweet potatoes, beans, legumes 
  • Fiber sources such as bran, fresh vegetables, whole-grains




Diabetic pets, I strongly recommend discussing any diet changes with your veterinarian.
It is known that animals that eat a healthier diet, and get regular exercise live longer lives.

Toxic Pet Foods

Most of us know what foods not to feed our pets. Here are some common examples. Alcohol, chocolate or raw yeast. All these can lead to health issues tremors and seizures etc. We also think fruit and vegetables are healthy. Can they hurt our pet? This may or may not surprise you.

Avocado's-especially can be toxic to birds, causing even death. In dogs it effects their breathing. Can also cause vomiting and diarrhea.
Grapes-can cause your dog to have kidney damage. This can eventually lead to increase urination and lethargy.
Onion Garlic-damages red blood cells, anemia, diarrhea, and are poison to both dogs & cats.
Even though this is not  fruit or vegetable. Keep in mind anything containing 
Xylitol-which can be found in sugar free gum, can poison your pet too. This ingredient causes increase insulin secretion, resulting in low blood sugar levels. This is especially toxic for dogs.
